As 2011 comes to a close, many of us are scrambling around for last minute Christmas gifts for loved ones, celebrating the joys of family and friends, peace on Earth, and good will toward men.
The holidays in general tend to weigh on many spirits and is reported to be the one time of the year that people fall susceptible to depression, isolation, and loneliness in spite of the festivities. Suicides tragically tend to escalate this time of year, as well.
It’s a difficult time for many people, but it’s far worse for those who are incarcerated, and beyond heart breaking for those wrongfully incarcerated – prevented from being with their families and support systems, unable to enjoy those lavish holiday turkey dinners, and restricted from setting out on the town to take in the beautiful holiday decorations adorning lawns and windows across the land.
Many of these victims of our broken justice system begin to feel the suffocating isolation of the cage they’ve been locked into without any recourse or contact with the outside world.
As you’re putting up your Christmas trees and adding those final touches of tinsel, we hope you will find empathy in your hearts for Paul being in this very predicament…missing another holiday with his family, another year that has passed without justice, another anniversary of dreams moving farther from reach.
A Very Merry Paul Cortez Christmas!
In the spirit of the holidays, the PCDF is giving a Call Out to Supporters of Paul and his fight, and ask that you all please remember Paul this Christmas with a donation pledge of $20 to put in his legal defense stocking. Grab a friend and challenge them to match your pledge.
For those of you who are unable to help financially, don’t forget to send your Christmas cards with words of love, warmth and kindness so Paul can sleep a little easier knowing that there are many who do still care and will pledge to help however they can. You may send your cards to Paul through the PCDF:
Paul Cortez c/o Paul Cortez Defense Fund
P.O. Box 714
East Brunswick, NJ 08816
The PCDF will be issuing these Community Action Campaigns frequently because Paul’s situation is dire and most serious – he genuinely needs our help, our support, our donations, our commitment. As long as he is incarcerated, your help will never be too late.
Please join us in making Paul’s Christmas a little brighter this year…
Virtual Stocking Stuffer
Here is a little something for your virtual stocking – the Free Paul Cortez Innocence Ribbon. The white ribbon represents innocence; the white dove in flight represents freedom. Right click and save a copy, and please post it on your websites, blogs, Facebook walls, and other social profiles. Help raise awareness about Paul’s wrongful conviction. It’s a very simple, 5 minute gesture that can have a broad impact.
With our deepest gratitude and appreciation, the PCDF team wishes you and yours a safe, warm, and happy Holiday season.
